Genre Research: Countdown

The movie Countdown fits into the genre we chose. The genre we chose is a thriller. This movie contains a lot of different elements. These elements fit into a thriller genre. Countdown does very well in building suspense. In the movie, the lot is very suspenseful. It contains a ‘countdown’ until something catastrophic will occur. This builds suspense in viewers. As a thriller movie should do. We watched the trailer to get some more insight. In the trailer of the movie, you can see that dim lighting is used. This is an element of thriller movies. This builds suspense very well. There were other elements of the trailer that included the use of camera angles. One of them was a close shot of the timer on the phone. This also built suspense and is an element of thriller movies. There were conventions we liked that follow a thriller genre. One of them was the use of diegetic sound. The chime noise kept building suspense very well. An element of this trailer we did enjoy was constant crosscutting. This kept making the suspense and fear build up. There were some elements we did not like. For example, the use of not enough high angles to look down on the characters. This would have made them look weak and vulnerable. Which in the end would build fear and suspense in viewers. Overall, this is a great recent example of a thriller. It contains many elements of a thriller that we researched in our previous blogs. We would take inspiration from this movie during production.

I and my group still have not come up with a concrete name for the Final Task short film. In order to resolve this, I called our group together and brought up the idea. After some discussion, my group came up with a shortlist of what the name of the film could be. One name that I brought was "Wrongdoings". My idea for this was to keep it short and conspicuous. This was in order to keep my Film in line with the mystery genre. A short name that would make the audience wonder could connotate a mystery. That is at least what I believed. Titling it Up

 My group is only a few steps away from finishing. Today, I need to add titles to my film. In order to do this, my group set up a meeting date. It was decided that my group meet Friday after school. So I got home and printed out the order of needed titles. Once I got with my group it was decided that each title had to have a name. So my group went one by one, deciding what to put for each title. After this, my group needed to see which title design will be used. In order to do this, each one of my groupmates created their own design. After every one of my groupmates made their design, each one was compared. My group decided that Sofia made the best design.
