Genre Research: Unhinged

Unhinged is the next movie we will be researching. It is a thriller movie from 2020. The movie itself had a lot of conventions. These conventions directly relate to the thriller genre. There are plenty of examples of these conventions. Starting with the storyline. The storyline follows that of a thriller. A man is targeting a woman and trying to terrify her. With this storyline, a lot of suspense can be built. Throughout the movie, suspense in viewers would build more and more as he hunts the woman. Now after watching the trailer, we see more conventions of a thriller movie. For example, the use of the appropriate sound motif. This builds suspense well. Another convention we saw in the trailer was an over-the-shoulder shot. This shot showed the man sneaking up on the woman creating suspense. This is one of the conventions that we liked about this movie. Another convention we liked was the close-up shot on the child's face. This face showed fear, foreshadowing the suspenseful things to come. One convention we did not like was how much action was in the movie. We would rather have a slower buildup of the suspense. Lastly, one more element we did not like was the lack of dim lighting used. We plan to use plenty of this to build suspense. Overall, we can take a lot from this movie to add to our final project.

I and my group still have not come up with a concrete name for the Final Task short film. In order to resolve this, I called our group together and brought up the idea. After some discussion, my group came up with a shortlist of what the name of the film could be. One name that I brought was "Wrongdoings". My idea for this was to keep it short and conspicuous. This was in order to keep my Film in line with the mystery genre. A short name that would make the audience wonder could connotate a mystery. That is at least what I believed.   A. Common Sound In Your Genre:   Background noise is prevalent in this short film. Things like ocean waves, people walking, trees swaying in the wind, etc.   B. Common Mis-En-Scene (CLAMPS) In Your Genre:   Dark dirty city, making it look more dangerous and remote. Close-ups and eye-level shots are common to show characters' emotions and paranoia.   C. Common Editing In Your Genre:   Close-ups and zooms. Another common editing technique is cut-away and parallel editing.   D. Example Films Of Your Genre:   Night Bus   E. What Elements Of The Genre That You Like:   The suspense is created through a director's editing techniques.   F. Titling it Up

 My group is only a few steps away from finishing. Today, I need to add titles to my film. In order to do this, my group set up a meeting date. It was decided that my group meet Friday after school. So I got home and printed out the order of needed titles. Once I got with my group it was decided that each title had to have a name. So my group went one by one, deciding what to put for each title. After this, my group needed to see which title design will be used. In order to do this, each one of my groupmates created their own design. After every one of my groupmates made their design, each one was compared. My group decided that Sofia made the best design.
